~ Gabriel Garcia Marquez

George Lucas has finally redeemed himself...

I spent S$10 on a ticket to watch Star Wars Episode III Return of the Sith this afternoon (yes, that's how ridiculously high movie ticket prices are in Singapore!!) and that was the title of one of the reviews at IMDB.com.

Yes, I agree! Mr Lucas, you've finally made something worthy of an A-list blockbuster. Though I still won't forgive all the crappy one-liners he threw onto Obi-Wan (making him appear... how do I say it nicely... less intelligent than he should have been...), I must say that I enjoyed it throughly! Dialogue still atrocious, and Anakin's transition to the Dark Side was rather awkward, IMO, but I guess the overall effect was enough for me to ignore these flaws and really immerse myself in the world that George Lucas created.

Since it's still new, I'm not gonna talk too much about it and spoil the fun =P. But I must say that if you are a Star Wars fan, whether it's the original or the prequels, this is a must-watch! It provides a great closure to the prequel, and a wonderful beginning to the original trilogy. In fact, the ending touched me a lot as I thought it linked very well to part IV.

Yup, this movie, unlike Episodes I and especially II, certainly left me feeling satisfied.

I agree it is the best amongst the part 1-3 saga but in itself is it really a good movie? The story has holes in it, Padme's death was ...well it could have been better. Hayden is good looking but acting a bit not that good. I like R2D2 though, very funny.

I just feel that his transition was too fast, the Jedis too cowardly (i mean look at Yoda! He ran away!) and I missed the puppet Yoda. Some scenes jumped the gun, like calling the Emperor the Emperor before he became the Emperor.

Not that great but the first few scenes were very spectacular.

Funn, I have to agree that there were lots of plot holes like those that you mentioned. There were lots more my friend and I picked out, in fact, some of which looked and sounded really ridiculous, like the friendship between Chewbacca and Yoda (????)

And yes, I do miss the puppet Yoda. In fact, one of my biggest complaints about the prequel is that Lucas has relied too much on CGI, kinda forgot that the essense of a successful movie relies on a good story instead.

But as I said, I thought by the end of it, it was good enough for me to just ignore the flaws and and enjoy the movie ^^.

Now that you mentioned Chewbacca, Yoda wasn't really friends with him, he was one of the warriors so to speak. But that would mean he is really very much older than Han Solo! Why don't Lucas just show a toddler Han Solo as well!!

Lucas originally intended to have a toddler Han Solo who was raised by the Wookies, but he decided against it for reasons I'm not sure of.

**** SPOLIERS ****

Ok, probably 'friendship' wasn't a good word, but it does look like Yoda had known Chewbacca for a long time, and that they at the very least did share a coridal, trusting and cooperative relationship. Oh, and don't you love it when Yoda climbs onto Chewie like a little animal. Heh... Everyone in the theatre was tickled.

Actually, if there's one thing that bothrs me about the prequels, is the part about the 'immortality' that Obi-Wan and Yoda had attained. In episode 1 when Qui-Gon Jinn died, he didn't disappear like Obi-Wan and Yoda did when they died, and I thought that implied that he didn't attain immortality, which was already something that went against what I thought of the original (that when a Jedi dies, he still exists as part of the Force).

In fact, from episodes 1 to 3, every Jedi who dies does not disappear, it's like the notion of immortality doesn't exist. Then all of a sudden towards the end Yoda says (or what I interpreted as...) that Qui-Gon had found the secret to immortality and wanted Obi-Wan to train some more towards that. Huh???

So I guessed that perhaps Qui-Gon really found a route to exist with the force, which was a skill that never existed as part of Jedi training hence was lost, so probably which was why with the extra training Obi-Wan was able to become this translucent 'spirit' and so does Yoda. But something else crops up here, and that is how come Darth Vader could also exist with the Force after his death?

I think from the prequels one can see that Lucas is getting increasingly confused (apart from the horrible horrible dialogue). By trying to explain something he creates another problem which sometimes really spoils the entire magic of it all, like explaining the Force as some organism (can't remember the name). I previously thought of it as something like 'chi', like the balance between Yin and Yang.

Ha... ok, just a complaint.

'Another happy landing!'
