un pensamiento para ti...
~ Gabriel Garcia Marquez
i feel cheated!
But luckily I haven't been donating recently. Wonderful, isn't it? Remember I was talking about the overkill of charity shows recently? If the charity drives one after another wasn't enough (1 for kidney dialysis patients, 1 for heart foundation, 1 for children's cancer, 1 for cancer....), now it's being revealed that the CEO of this charity organization (meaning that they rely entirely on public donations) earns between $550,000 and $600,000 a month, flies on 1st class, owns a mercs and has a private toilet in his office with a gold plated tap!! Man, it sure feels lousy to think that the money I donated in the past in the name of helping these patients go to funding the salary and the expenses of this CEO. >.<

Ironic ain't it? The CEO (or rather, ex-CEO now that the whole board of directors has resigned) sued SPH, and now this suit has backfired on them, and all their dirty laundry is aired in publir.
You know in Msia there are those who sells those discount cards where you get privileges in participating restaurants, like discounts. Sounds great since it is for cancer charity stuff and then the sellers say for example 30% to the charity. And you wonder what about the 70%? Why can't you give 100%? That I feel like cheating me so I stopped. I'd rather donate directly to that organisation. But I really dislike the recent ads over the radio that instead of spending RM10-00 on a pirated DVD, why not give it to orphanges so that that kid won't grow up to be an illegal VCD peddler.
What's so bad about VCD peddlers? Can't I donate if I want to and still buy my fave show since we have Hollywood stars earning 25 million per movie?
Yes Peiyin, the irony of it all. But it's stupid isn't it? I mean, suing SPH for defamation charges which was in fact true? Then in the middle of it all suddenly drop the charges like admitting to the whole world that "yes, we have misused the funds".
Actually what irks me most about thi whole incident is that NKF is a charity organization, yet they can afford to pay the CEO such a high amount INCLUDING 12 month bonuses and lots of extravgant perks. I mean, it's true that u need high pay to keep the capable people on top but this is social service! The moment u enter this line u have to be prepared to accept that u won't be earning as much as those from other profit organizations! And the thing with NKF is that not everyone in need of dialysis is eligible as well - as long as one member of the family has high income, NKF doesn't accept them. Thing is, whether or not one family member has high income, dialysis is a long term thing which stll will have a heavy burden on the patient and the people around him. Even so, the subsidy for these patients isn't that great either.
So, instead of giving the CEO(and I believe the board of directors as well), why not channel the money to the benefit of these patients? And to think they made charity shows and drives one after another, putting the lives and limbs of artistes at risk and having them cry and plead with audiences to please donate cos they dun have the money and they need it badly.
That 3 year estimate probably included the expenses of those people on top.
