~ Gabriel Garcia Marquez

oh my...again...

Anyone remembers Faramir from Lord of the Rings? Boromir's brother? Any idea who this actor is?

Well, he is Australian actor David Wenham, who is quite acclaimed in his own country, especially in theatre. Unfortunately he's hardly known outside Australia. Anyway, great actor.

Anyway, my point was, I found this clip from Youtube which featured a young David Wenham in, guess what... An interactive CD-ROM clip about interviewing skills!!!

Shocking! Look at that hairstyle! So reminds me of those videos on therapy and counselling skills my lecturer used to make us watch! So dated and staged!!

Wait a minute... I heard him say "...call me on my mobile". Means it's not that old also? But I dun remember hairstyles were like that during the mobile phone era! Hmmm...

Wonder how that clip above tied into the topic of interviewing skills...

Anyway, again, as I was saying, great actor. Case in point, just see the clips below from the movie Cosi, where he plays a resident at an asylum, and from the movie Gettin' Square. Can't never imagine Faramir in those characters (warning: watch only if you are 16 and above):

I have not seen his older films but I knew his name was David Wenham way back in LOTR because I liked the character of Faramir. He was in Van Helsing by the way, as Igor, quite ugly there. Have you seen 300? He narrated it and was 100% of the time bare chested with abs to die for. He was also in Crocodile Hunter, Collision Course, with the late Steve Irwin. He was in fact at Steve Irwin's memorial where he recited a very moving poem. Actors being actors, he had a very commanding and clear voice, a bit old but when he recited it, I tell you almost like the British, full of emotion, intonation and clarity. If it was an american, it would have been a disaster. Anyway I think he's married with children. I also saw the LOTR Specials where there was one where he was talking about riding a horse, and everytime he mounted the horse the horse just ran off with him on it, he couldn't control the horse! So for that scene where Faramir was riding to his death straight one line with his fellow Gondorians, instead of a horse he was actually riding some fake horse, stimulating horse riding and looking quite embarassed, he added "like having sex". Quite charming fellow.

David Wenham was in Van Helsing but not as Igor :) He was Hugh Jackman's sidekick Carl, the friar.

I haven't watched any of his old movies too cos basically they're unavailable in Singapore. Even one of his most famous movies 'Better Than Sex' is quite hard to come by even in Australia.

Yup, I saw that LOTR special clip too! Really quite embarassing, especially for the girl. Haha... good thing they came up with the phony pony at least not as embarassing.

But I couldn't find that clip in the extended DVD version. Any idea where that came from?

You're right, charming fellow.
