the buffet that claims to help u lose weight...
From what I found out, a group of enterprising NUS students formed an organization called Quay Inspirations which came up with a buffet with the aim of helping people lose weight. It's called Sports Buffet, really, and it actually consists of 4 types of activities - yoga, pilates, hip-hop and aerobics kickboxing. The deal is this: you pay a flat rate for either 1 or 2 months, and u can attend unlimited sessions of these activities within that time period, regardless of which activity. There's only one drawback, and that is all the lessons are from 5 to 9pm, meaning that I have to either stay back in school for a few hours just to attend one hour of class, or to make the special effort to go back to school just to, again, attend a one-hour class.
More about it here: http://www.learntoday.com.sg/courseSportsBuffet.php
Eager to get more and even more exercise to lose weight, and being interested to try out hip-hop and kickboxing in the 1st place, I paid S$60 for one month, making the bold and unprecedented decision to sacrifice some evenings for a good workout. Henceforth, I went for my very first hip-hop lesson this evening.
It's fun! Althou I looked pretty stupid in front of the mirror trying to get all the moves right with the appropriate style, I nevertheless enjoyed the session. Maybe it's the instructor, a nice young lady who's all smiles and energy. Maybe it's that feeling that everyone's struggling with me on the dance floor. Or maybe it's the previous jazz classes that has made me more relaxed about dancing in front of the mirror and accepting my own flaws in dancing. After all, I learnt that with practice, I actually have the potential to look not-so-stupid when dancing. So at the end of the day, I thought it didn't matter that I looked like a buffoon, I enjoyed the music, the beat, the rhythm, the moves...
Sounds so unlike me, huh? Well, if only I can keep this attitude throughout life =P
But frankly, after all that eagerness to try hip-hop, I think I still prefer jazz... Must have been influenced by Vincent's passion for jazz... Nevertheless, I'm gonna attend more sessions of hip-hop, make my money's worth. Not too interested in yoga and pilates also, actually...
Anyway, like I told my friend, I'm gonna try my hand (and legs) at kickboxing this Friday. Maybe I'll sign up for two one-hour sessions in a row. Today's one-hour lesson simply wasn't enough - by the time I got most of the steps class was over, not to mention getting the style right.
So anyway, my great big step in trying for an active lifestyle.
