about movies and yes, my friendster account...
... is finally in use. Hahaha! Yup, actually got the account like eons ago but was very lazy to do anything with it. But anyway, have updated my profile and pictures and added some friends (with more invitation requests pending).
I'm not one who keeps in contact with my friends very well. I mean, I would love to, but sometimes I'm just plain lazy to do anything about it. That's very bad... Hopefully Friendster will help remedy some of that...
Listening to the Big Fish soundtrack now. This movie is one of my all-time favourites. It has this 'magical' effect and feel to it that I just can't describe, but all I can say is that I love the movie. Very very touching. In fact, Big Fish is the only movie that makes me cry everytime I watch it, which is a really big deal cos I'm the type who won't cry at movies or TV shows for that matter. Even if I do, by the second time I watch it, I'm totally cool. Big Fish is different. I've watched it many times now (first time in the cinema with LX, 2 more times on the aeroplane to and from New Zealand and since I have the DVD, I also watch it once in a while), yet it still makes me cry. It always starts at the part towards the end where senior Edward Bloom is lying on his deathbed while his son tells his father the story, kinda like a reconciliation of his love for his father and his fathers's stories. I can't exactly pinpoint what makes me so emotional, I just feel so touched by it... Man, I even feel like crying now as I'm recalling the scene... Oh yes, and the soundtrack is great, characteristic of Danny Elfman and as good his other works like those for Edward Scicssorshand.
Scenes that make me cry in general rarely have anything to do with romance. In fact, I cringed big-time at Titanic. Instead, it's usually things like family ties (like Big Fish), or the reflection of the human spirit (like Saving Private Ryan, or even certain documentaries about ordinary people overcome their difficulties) that make me sob.
Anyway, movies I'm looking fwd to now... Not many actually. I would like to say Star Wars III - Revenge of the Sith, unfortunately George Lucas has butchered his original trilogy with part 1 and part 2. Ok, I actually thought part 1 was fine, like not as good as the trilogy but still fine. But part 2 was.... -_-~. Too much CG, not enough heart and soul, and the dialouge was definitely one big turn off. Was I supposed to laugh??? Was that supposed to be witty??? Mr Lucas, you've lost your magic touch so pleaseeee.... find someone else to write your scripts (in fact, I heard that the scripts for the original trilogy were not written by him in the first place)!!!! And as I always say, even quality actors like Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman turn into lousy actors under Lucas's script and direction. And yes.... young Skywalker Hayden Christensen... Ok, I have heard that he's a a really good actor in other movies, which I've never seen. But in Star Wars he's only 2 words - cringe-worthy.
"I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead, every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children, too. They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals. I HATE THEM." So love me.
Am looking fwd to 2 other movies instead 1) Stage Beauty and 2) Ladies in Lavender. Stage Beauty is showing in cinemas now but not sure if I will watch it. See what I can arrange with YC cos she's interested too ^^. Ladies in Lavender is actually a pretty 'unknown' British movie which I think hasn't been shown outside Britain yet. Actully stumbled upon it while looking up the Daniel Brulh's info on IMDB and he was credited for this one English movie, and out of curiosity I checked it out. Looks very interesting, and it stars Maggie Smith! Also stars Judi Dench whom I'm not familar with (was actually never into English movies only until few years ago) but apparently she's an award-winning actress. Here's what one site has to say about the movie:
Set in picturesque coastal Cornwall, in a tight-knit fishing village in the 1930's, "Ladies in Lavender" boasts the cream of British acting talent as Oscar and BAFTA award-winners Dame Judi Dench ("Iris," "Chocolat," recent "James Bond" films) and Dame Maggie Smith ("Gosford Park," "Tea with Mussolini," the "Harry Potter" films) play the leading roles of sisters Ursula (Dench) and Janet Widdington (Smith).
Rising German talent and award-winning Daniel Bruhl ("Goodbye Lenin!") plays Andrea. A gifted young Jewish violinist from Krakow, Andrea is bound for America when he is swept overboard by a fierce storm. When the Widdington sisters discover the handsome and mysterious stranger on the beach below their house, they nurse him back to health. However, the presence of the musically talented young man disrupts the peaceful lives of Ursula and Janet and the community in which they live.

There's a lot more to it, of course, if you watch the trailer. Hopefully Singapore brings it in...
Ok back to my Evaluating Health Claims project! Till then!!
