Poster from 安域情韻 '05 Posted by Hello

I attended AJC's CLDDS drama performance last night. Funny feeing to be sitting in the audience watch the juniors with their plays when just last year there we were, up on stage frantically trying to put on a good show for the alumni performance. The alumni even got the VIP seats!!! That was an honour. I was sitting right behind the principal, vice-principals and the HODs. Haha.. Guess that's how the Chinese saying goes, 長江後浪推前浪 (前浪死在沙灘上)*.

Great to see that the juniors finally got a chance to put up a performance this year. The performance was cancelled for 2 whole years (one year b'cos of SARS and the other I'm not sure), which means that there's an entire generation of CLDDS members who didn't get a chance to experience putting up a play on a big scale. There were 4 plays and a few other singing performances for this year (they had a singing group incorporated into CLDDS after I left the school... years ago...). The singing was... eh... so-so, with a few more outstanding performances. I liked the plays though, heard they were written by the students themselves. I liked the way they managed to infuse some funny moments into a serious issue, though the audience were laughing almost all the time (I think it's hard not to do that when u see ur friends up on stage acting lovey-dovey with each other ;)) My favourite was the 3rd play, about how these 2 young people met at the most unlikely of circumstances, started to like each other, but never expressed that. Soon, the girl had to go overseas and the boy told her that he'd wait, and he did. Only complaint was the ending, which I thought was too happy and perfect. Not that I'm sadistic but I think it would have been more realistic and more memorable if the boy had waited in vain while the girl had continued with her life, yah? That's be really sad but memorable with an impact. And I absolutely loved the last play. So hilarious!!

We all agreed that there's still room for improvement, but considering the fact that they didn't have the experience, I thought they had done a commendable job. But the best of course always occurs after the whole show, then we all, juniors, seniors, everyone, moved on to the nearby KFC for supper and shared some bonding moments. It's fun seeing all the old friends and meeting new ones. We laughed, played games, talked about the next alumni performance which will be held next year... It was fun. I enjoyed the night ^o^.
