gift-wrapping

Funn asked for some pointers for gift-wrapping. Well, I'm no expert and gift-wrapping is more of an interest. In fact, my designs are all 'spur-of-a-moment' kind of thing =P, so a little hard to give pointers on that. But here are some basics which are very useful and which I've learnt over the course of wrapping stuff ^^...

1) When wrapping a gift, always fold the raw edges inside so that you see a very nice straight line at the edge. To create a design out of it, try folding it multiple times, eg like in steps or like a ribbon around the gift, like what I did in this one. Creates an extra touch. The good thing about this is also that it uses up more wrapper so that you don't have tiny pieces of wrapper left which you don't know what to do with (not even enough to wrap dumplings!)

2) Whenever possible, use the double-sided tape ^^.

3) As for the extra decorations, just use your creativity! One of my aunts who got me interested in gift-wrapping showed me how to create decorations using paper ribbons but I found that difficult cos I don't stock up on that many colours and shades so it's very hard to match with my wrappers (I don't wrap presents everyday, y'know). Which is why nowadays I use left-over wrapper to cut and paste and style cos 1. paper is easier to shape and cut, 2. the colour and pattern is exactly the same so it blends in well. Tools to use? A penknife if you're particular about symmetry and stright edges, or just a pair of scissors if you're lazy like me. Double-sided tape is useful too, glue gets too messy for me.

3) Try one of those books on gift-wrapping! Some designs may be a little hard to achieve, but at least they give really good tips and ideas so you can modify to suit your style and needs.

4) The first few attempts always ends up in a mess (believe me, I had my days), so keep trying! You'll get the hang of it ^^. I'm still experimenting too.

Very good pointers! Thanks! I hope you'll put up more shots of your gift wrapping results maybe with some pointers. I really like that one you posted, the flower, the colour, the combination of it all. It would be a pity to rip off the papers!
