The Golden Horse Awards came and went, and well, congrats to all the winners! Especially Shu Qi, who finally received Best Actress for her effort in her latest movie. Kudos! And kudos to Kungfu Hustle too, for winning Best Picture. But seriously, I have issues with 2 recepients...

How in the world did Aaron Kwok win Best Actor and Jay Chou win Best Newcomer???? Granted I haven't seen Divergence, which Kwok was nominated for, but when he's up against wonderful actors such as Tony Leung Kar Fai and Chen Kun, never never in my life would I think that he could ever compete with them. But I did watch Initial D and frankly, Chou was... errr... totally expressionless from beginning to end. Don't get me wrong, I like Chou the musician (in fact, I have a whole collection all of his CDs, MTVs...), but his acting is definitely something left to be desired....

See here for the results, and here for the nominations list.

Anyway, the shipment from Amazon.com has finally arrived! Yay! So I've been using my time off revision to play around with the special features of the Batman Begins Deluxe Edition DVD (we decided to get it from Amazon cos the pre-order verison is S$10 cheaper from there than off the shelves in S'pore). It's always exciting to look through all that making-of specials. Oh, and if u have a chance to get your hands on this edition, go take a look at the hilarious Batman spoof MTV made called Tankman! Haha... One complaint thou, the special features disc is incredibly hard to navigate. I appreciate the creativity, as in the producers decided to make the menu into a "virtual comic book", which means you have to flip the "pages" on screen to access the various footage. Thing is, these special footages including making-of specials are not labelled accordingly and are literally hidden within the comic drawings so u gotta move the cursor around till you hit upon a part of the drawing that changes colour. Cheem huh? Pity, one big flaw of an otherwise great DVD.

A girl who likes a guy who dresses up like a bat *clearly has issues*.

Sigh, first paper on Saturday. Argh!!!!

Update (28/11/05):

Ahhh... felt the need to clarify this, haha. Apparently, the navigation of the DVD is not so difficult after all! Cos all you have to do really is to scroll to the very last page of the 'virtual comic book' and u can see this option that actually links u to a page where all the special videos are listed out neatly for u. So all u have to do is just to navigate from there. Haha, waste all my time with the comic version. But it's fun, really, so go try it if u have the time ^^

The edition that I have been talking about is Code 1. However, I was browsing through the stores and found that the same edition over here (I assume is Code 3) is actually a little different. For one, the cover is a more impressive 2D image of Batman and all the bats flying around. But it looks like the MTV spoof isn't included in this one. Also not sure if the Special Features disc is the same or if there are things missing/extra from the Code 1 version... If u know do tell me, yah?

Sorry but Shu Qi? Aaron Kwok?

In another award I think the China one, Jackie Chan won something. I thing an acting award. Scary..

You know what is scariest? Dato' Michelle Yeoh getting an oscar nod for her role in Geisha. I should be proud and I am but really she is no actress. But worst fear, is Zhang Ziyi getting nominated. Wow so scary...

Shu Qi's acting actually has been rather impressive in the past few years, very intense and charismatic in terms of screen presence and acting ability, one of the best young actresses out there, so I'm not too surprised that she won the award (only thing is her past of being a Cat III actress, but being able to shine despite of that is a rarity). But Aaron Kwok... I'm quoting from LoveHKfilm.com, "Aaron Kwok won Best Actor! Insert your own joke here."

Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi?? Gosh... American movie-makers are taking the Asian-craze tad too seriously.

Ok, in fairness, Zhang Ziyi a good actress. But she's been swept too far away by the promises of Hollywood, so much so that she has lost most of her charms that once defined her as a superb actress.

Jackie Chan won an acting award? Now that IS scary. Movie and music awards just don't mean as much as they used to now do they?
