~ Gabriel Garcia Marquez

the passing of a young star...

Just saw the news and I was just utterly shocked that Taiwanese actress Xu Wei Lun had passed away after getting involved in a car accident late last night. It's just... she's pretty and so young and... I mean she's not famous and I don't particularly fancy her cos I'm not too current with Taiwanese entertainment but I know who she is and I did she her transform from a green, rookie actress to a popular Taiwanese idol....

Like my opinion of most Taiwanese actors and actresses I never thought of her as a good actress and even when I saw news of her accident on the MRT this afternoon I didn't think much of it until I saw the news tonight when it was confirmed that she had passed away at around 5pm today from serious head injuries. But... she's so young!! I would never never expect something that terrible to happen to someone like her!

I suppose the shadow of the unpredictablity of life does linger around us all but it's just that we choose not to look at it. We always believe that there will be a tomorrow, and we fret about things that will happen in the future. What if the future doesn't even come?

Some times when I think about it, if I were to really choose between the 2, dying from an illness is probably better than dying in accidents, cos at least an illness allows you time to fulfil unfulfiled matters, set things right if they were wrong, and say proper goodbyes to the people who are dear to you. But accidents - it goes just like that.

When I was in JC I had a classmate who lost her father overnight in a motorcycle accident, which also left her mother in a coma in the ICU. That happened nearing the A Levels, and I always remember that scene during my last A Level paper, where I saw her handing in her paper just 15 minutes into the exam and then stepping out of the classroom, obviously with nothing written on it. It was not until I took up psychology was when I thought about the process of grief - how we all express grief in different ways. For fatalities resulting from accidents, the process of grieving and gaining a proper closure becomes a luxury which few can afford.

Wonder how Xu Wei Lun's family and close friends are taking the blow?
