un pensamiento para ti...
~ Gabriel Garcia Marquez
the singer tony
With all his impressive achievements in the Chinese movie industry, it's hard to remember that the great Tony Leung Chiu Wai was also an on-off pop singer!
Can't remember how many albums he released. Two Mandarin ones, I think, and dunno how many Cantonese ones.
Yup, he was the one with the nose ring and created a stir with his long skirt he wore for some performances. Yes, a skirt, the bohemian type, to be precise. So Leslie Cheung really wasn't the pioneer in such gender-bending dressing. Tony Leung brought it into his wardrobe long before Leslie picked it up in his 1998 concert (I stand corrected at the exact year thou). Interesting to see that he seems to have outgrown the 'decadant' look.
I also remember clearly that he was the one who said in an interview that he preferred singing to acting because singing allowed him to be himself.
Anyway, nice songs, brings me back to the times I was a raw youngster.
The title of the first clip says that the song was released in 1994, and I was in Primary 6 that year! Can't remember when the 2nd one was released but definitely around that time too. Goodness! How time flies! I can still memorize the lyrics and tunes of both songs by hard.
Anyone out there got the MP3 versions of both songs and would care to send it to me? Thank you!!
Oh, and I chanced upon this clip while listening to the song. Very good English! I read in his biography once that he left school at the age of 15 due to financial difficulties in the family, hence it must have been self-taught (even though he claims that he learnt his English from kindergarden!) and this just increased my admiration for him.
Haha that quiz at the end was cute! But wouldn't the word "futuristic" fit the bill too?
