the price of beauty...
Ahhh... the lengths people will go to just to look beautiful. Just the other day I found out that my aunt had tatooed her lips. For what??? Gosh! Apparently it's so that her lips would look naturally pink. Owww...
Anyway, Pearl is a sinner in this area as well. You see, remember I've been talking about losing weight and all? Well, my diet and exercise plan hasn't really worked as I hoped it would. In fact, I went up by another kg!!!! I'm definitely on the overweight scale now. So, in a desperate measure, I followed my mum and aunt (not the one who tatooed her lips) to this Chinese doctor to do something about this depressing weight problem - accupuncture.
It seemed to have worked wonders for my aunt, who started on it first, so mum and I were lured to give it a go as well =P. I was reluctant at first, thought I could try to lose weight using the orthodox method (ie diet and exercise), so mum went ahead. But now, sigh... cannot stand it liao. It's weird actually cos during the time when I was udergoing this intensive diet, I was never that impatient about losing weight and all, so although it took like 6 months to loose 8kgs, it didn't seem that long to me. I guess it's because I was fat at that time and never slim, so I wasn't too bothered about whether it would work or not cos I was used to being fat anyhow. But now, after having a taste of being an M-size (I could actually squeeze into an S-size sometimes), having to go back to an L is just unbearable. In fact, have been forgoing my fitting tees recently for the larger tees. Just bouoght 2 L-sized tees cos my current ones are getting too tight and uncomfortable. May have to invest in a new pair of jeans too if this goes on...
Ok, here's how the accupuncture goes. You lie on the bed, the doctor will fill your tummy with a number of needles (dunno how many, didn't count), plus 2 more needles on each arm and leg. Apparently the ones on the legs are to regulate the hormones. As for the ones on the arms, I'm not sure for what. Anyway, after that she would run electric currents into your body thru the needles, and then bring a lamp-like contraption above the tummy and start to cook it. Was it painful? Surprisingly, not really. When the needles first puncture the skin it was even less painful than an ant-bite. You get this weird feeling when the doctor starts to 'screw' the needle deeper into the skin but it's definitely not pain. The electric currents felt ticklish at first (to the astonishment of the doctor when I told her that because according to her, most people feel painful), then it actually started to get pretty comfortable but towards the end of the half-hour session, it started to get quite painful which was intensified by the heat. But by the time you think you can't handle the discomfort, it's over.
Yup, my first accupuncture session. Apparently one of my biggest problems is having a poor digestive system, leading to bloatedness and a poor detox system (yea, I can feel that too) So the treatment also included Chinese medication to imprive my digestive system.
Feel guilty for having to resort to things like this to lose weight, when I'm probably one of those who is skeptical of such gimmicks. I guess I'm just desperate. Hopefully it does work... No, in fact, IT BETTER WORK!!!!!!!!!!!

Aiyahhh I thought you went for plastic surgery or liposuction! Acupuncture normal what. Smokers who want to stop smoking also do this. Do it without guilt.
So feel good first day? Not so hungry anymore? Expensive? Ermmm isn't this like detox minus the headaches?
Eh in Asia L size is like Westerner's S size you know. I consider that small already.
By the way I was informed that Elizabeth Taylor tatooed her eyelids or somewhere there for a permanent mascara look you know.
Eh, first day felt ok lah, not much difference. I did get less hungry and had less urge to eat, but just a little. Expensive? Well, I would say not as expensive as those slimming centres with endorsements by famous celebrities =P.
Tatooed eyelids? Yeah, I heard of that too. Can't imagine the pain!
EEEEWWWWW.....The sight of the needle is enough to make me shudder...I admire your courage!
good luck pp, tell mi if it works =) i m still into the orthodox way. out of action for the next 2 weeks. my 1st bike lesson ended up in mi scalding my leg with the engine. skin peeled off due to the scald wound. sigh.. out of action le.. wil blog about it soon. meanwhile, please dun diet too much. play badminton together when u come back ok? =)
Oh now paw, how's ur leg now? U stopping lessons???
Btw, Peiyin, I'm actually scared of injections also. But maybe because I have so much fat beneath the skin that the needles don't hurt me that much. In fact, it got more painful at the arms and the legs precisely because there was less fat in those area than in my tummy, IMO.
Anyway, will see how the results are by the end of it ^^
yo, healing a little. dryin up le. still alive no worries. my life alot drama lala. catch the latest adventures of paw soon. hjaha
