jazz, the play and jobs
Attended my first jazz lesson today (it's called 'combo jazz' now) after a rest of almost a year. Ooo... so difficult!! Totally couldn't coordinate my arms and legs and I totally couldn't get the arms. This class is held by the same instructor, but I think this time it's more of a private class thingy. Anyhow, for those interested in trying out some funky jazz moves, try attending one lesson and see how u like it. Or if u're game, sign up for 5 or 10 lessons at lower rates. Here's the details as emailed to us from Vincent:

WHAT IS COMBO JAZZ CLASS?
It is class where, from time to time, will change it's style from Lyrical, Street, Latin and Contemporary.
Jazz training will be the base for all classes. Conditioning towards a better dancer body will be employed in class.
Class begins with a general warm up with stretching to gear the body towards the rest of the class.
Class progresses from warming up to floorwork to centerwork and a short combination to hone your coordination skills.
Please check with your physician before you begin all exercising regime. Love your body. :)
He's a great instructor. And yes, u can quote me on that ^^
Anyway, unfortunately I think today's gonna be my first and last jazz lesson. So sad... Here's the long story...
You see, every Sat was supposed to be put aside for rehearsals for the play, so I figured and discussed with Jimson that we could have the rehearsal after I come back from jazz which will be in the afternoon. However, we received notice that AJC would only be opened until 1pm, so all rehearsals had to be in the morning. So we made an agreement that he'd take over Sat's rehearsals while I take over the weekday ones when they begin (after we've finished the entire script). So I thought, great, everything settled.
But, as fate would have it, I called Jimson just to find out how the rehearsals went and the first thing he did was to give this big, loud sigh over the phone. Apparently, one of our main actresses is very tough to handle, displaying antisocial behaviours and attitudes which was problematic at the first rehearsal with her (which was today). Oh dear... My toughest challange as a director/team leader in so many years.
We also encountered problems in the past week when another of our main actresses suddenly decided to call it quits cos she said that she has found a job and won't be able to commit anymore. Got the both of us in a fluster again as the character is not an easy one as in the actress herself must possess some pre-requisite which is not easy to find - it's the character of a little girl, meaning the actress not only must know how to and is willing to act, she must be short enough to appear like a child when standing with her 'father' (we wouldn't have been so vexed if the scene only requires her to appear alone so that there is no point of comparison). We wanted to ask one of our actresses to take over the role, but standing at 171cm, we realized that this just isn't gonna work out (the 'father' stands at 183cm). The co-producer Tracy recommended someone who's of a more reasonable height but her work means that her time-off is gonna be unstable. I'm trying to see if I can persuade her to take up that role...
Great... 5 more months to the actual day... This better work out...
Anyway, I've been called for a 2nd interview with the Singapore Children's Society, which was a pleasant surprise considering I was totally freaked out in the first interview. This one's at 11am, while I have another at MCI-Singapore at 2pm. I figure it's gonna be a very very stressed Tuesday.
What a fun-filled, eventful week this was and how exciting the next week will be (no, that have nothing to do with CNY).
